First, if you're NOT looking for a custom piece for a competition, I can do an arrangement that would be for sale to anyone who wants it. That way, I'll have another piece to sell and you will save a TON of money.
If you want a piece that only your group will perform, here's what to do.
If the song is not yours and is not in the public domain (that is, does someone still have copyright rights to it), make sure you have permission to arrange for the song. See FAQ "Do I need to get permission from someone to have you write or arrange a song for me?"
If the music/song is already properly written down, you can send a copy of that from which I can work. If it's not written, I will need to transcribe it first. You'll need to let me know:
- What style you want
- What instruments you want (if you know)
- What key you want it in (we can discuss that and discover the best key for you).
- If you want it just as a paper arrangement (for others to play) or as a track (Karaoke). There are a number of options with a recording (computer-played, with live/real instruments or a combination)
After that -
- I will create a sample of the project for you to hear (If it's a standard song, I'll provide a bit of the verse and chorus) .
- You can approve it or suggest changes. This is where you'll decide if I'm the right person for your project. (See FAQ "Can you do ANY style of music?" for more details about fitting the writer with the project.)
- I will take all of the information we discussed and set a price for the project. Don't get nervous here. The price should make you happy. But, please remember, you're not just ordering a karaoke track from I-tunes. See the pricing for recording for an idea of what it might cost. Since your recording is part of a larger project your final cost will be about 25% lower.
- Once you accept the price, I'll need a deposit of 50% of the total.
- After the project is complete, I'll let you hear and/or see a finished version. This will be controlled; you won't be able to record or copy the finished project.
- You may request minor changes at this point for no additional charge. (See FAQ "Do you offer any guarantee for your work?" for more information about guarantee.) Anything that would take a lot of time (more than an hour) would have to have an additional charge. (For example, if you wanted the whole song changed from 3/4 to 4/4 or used different instruments in the recording.)
- When you approve the project, I'll need the balance of the cost. Then I will deliver the project to you in a mutually acceptable form (e-mail, snail mail, paper, CD, flash drive, etc.)
