My niece was getting married and wanted a song to commemorate the event. So, she gave me a description of important things she wanted included in the song as well as a style she liked. I wrote the melody and lyrics; she suggested a few do-able changes to the lyrics. Then I recorded it. The total cost for something like this is about $480. The composition itself would be $180; that included the string parts and their arrangement (arrangements are otherwise separate). The recording would be $300; that included guitar, bass and drums parts and the vocal. Simpler recordings are always possible, if you'd like to shave some off of the price. Remember, people spend WAY more than that on other wedding presents.

Please also keep in mind that people who are polite, understanding and gracious tend to get discounts. Others don't.
